This month I passed the examination for my black belt in judo, and today I received my black belt from my teacher at Kōgakkan University 皇學館大学, Satō Takeru 佐藤武尊. I’ve been training off and on in martial arts for about 25 years, starting with judo back in 1992 at the University of Kansas, and it seems fitting that I end up getting my first black belt in judo as well.
This isn’t just a post about me, though. The reason I was able to train and get my black belt is because we have a great group of enthusiastic and very skillful judoka led by extremely supportive instructors. On top of that, they’re happy to welcome judoka from other schools and clubs, including judoka from overseas. It’s not uncommon for judoka from other countries to join us for practice.
If you are ever in the area, and you’ve got your judogi with you, get in touch with us.
