My English translation of Sengū roman 遷宮浪漫, which I titled A Journey through Time at Jingu has been in the news media recently in conjunction with the upcoming G7 Summit at Ise-Shima.
The photo and article above was in yesterday’s Chūnichi Newspaper 中日新聞. I’m also happy to say that the book was covered in the Yomiuri Newspaper 読売新聞 and Ise Newspaper 伊勢新聞.
In addition, Mie Television 三重テレビ (the prefectural television station) invited me on for about ten minutes the other night to talk about the book. It’s great to have had all of the media coverage.
Related to this book, I’ll be giving a lecture next week for the Ise and Japan Study Program 「伊勢」と日本スタディプログラム called “Translating Shinto” about the translating process. There are a lot of interesting challenges in putting something that covers Japanese religion, culture, and history into English, especially when it comes to clarifying thoughts and background knowledge needed to make sense of it all. I’ll talk about these things as well as some of the fundamental books in Japanese and English that really help in understanding (and translating) Shinto.
